  • Do I have to take a Covid test to visit Meddyg Care?

No. If you have recently been unwell and wish to check that you do not still have the virus in your system, then Meddyg Care can facilitate the test for you on arrival, please telephone the home to book a visiting time as we will need to ensure there is someone available to undertake the test for you.

  • How many visitors can a resident have?

There is no set limit on the number of visitors a resident can have at once.

  • How long can a visit last?

There is no set limit on the duration of a resident visit.

  • Can I take photographs or videos inside the home?

We do not permit photographs or videos to be taken in any communal areas of the homes, including hallways. Photographs of your loved one may be taken in their bedroom.

  • Do I have to be vaccinated to visit Meddyg Care?

No. You are not required by law to be vaccinated against Covid-19 in order to visit a resident in a care home. Though it is highly advisable for residents’ safety.

  • Can I visit if I have been in contact with someone who has Covid?

Fully vaccinated people are no longer required by law to isolate if they test positive for Covid-19, but it is advised in order to protect others.

If you have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19, you are advised not to visit a care home for 10 days (from when you saw them), unless it’s absolutely necessary.

  • Can I visit if I feel unwell but have a negative Covid Test?

We would advise you not to visit Meddyg Care if you are feeling unwell, as you might be carrying something else, such as flu or norovirus.

Symptoms of a contagious virus include:
– Coughing and sneezing
– Fever
– Vomiting
– Diarrhoea

If you have any of these, it’s advised to avoid visiting us until you have been feeling better for at least five days.

  • Do I have to book a visit to Meddyg Care in advance?

No. You do not have to book in advance if your visit is conducted between 10 am and 6 pm, Monday to Sunday.

  • Where can visits take place?

Visits should take place wherever is best for the resident. This might be their room, a designated visiting area or lounge.

Our residents can also visit others outside the home, so you can take a resident out for a day trip or to your home, as long as the resident is happy and that it’s safe to do so. Please speak with the home manager to discuss this in more detail.

  • Do I have to wear a mask when visiting?

We do not require visitors to wear a mask, however if you have recently been unwell, we would recommend that you should wear a face covering that covers your nose and mouth when visiting in communal areas.

You are permitted to remove your mask in the resident’s room or small lounge if no other residents are in the room.

  • What happens if there is an outbreak of Covid in the home?

A Covid-19 outbreak in a care home is when there are 2 or more confirmed (or clinically suspected) cases of Covid in the home, and their symptoms started within 10 days of each other.

If a care home has an outbreak of Covid-19, it needs to go into outbreak measures. This must last for 10 days since the onset of symptoms of the most recent case, subject to a risk assessment by the health protection team.

If a care home is in outbreak measures:

Families’ may nominate 2 ‘essential visitors’ who may continue to visit inside the care home during an outbreak. They may visit separately or at the same time.

Essential visitors follow the same testing guidance as staff at the care home. They also need to wear the same PPE as staff if they provide any personal care (support with washing, dressing, going to the toilet, eating, shaving etc).

Essential visitors also have different guidance when it comes to visiting, including:

They can still visit a resident who is isolating and can still visit if the care home is in an outbreak.
